The Society of Dairy Technology

Welcome to the Society of Dairy Technology's Website

Dedicated to Advancing Dairy Science and Technology

Founded in 1943, the Society of Dairy Technology (SDT) is at the forefront of the dairy and food industries. It is dedicated to the advancement of Dairy Science and Technology across all areas of the agri-food sector, to the mutual benefit of milk producers, dairy processors, food retailers and consumers.

The Society is the recognised professional body fostering scientific and technological developments in the dairy industries of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. Whilst its many members are predominantly from these two countries, it also has wider international representation through overseas members drawn from other EU countries and further afield.

The SDT, in conjunction with Blackwell Publishing, publishes the renowned International Journal of Dairy Technology, it also organises formal Meetings, Symposia and Conferences, and facilitates technological training and education in appropriate subjects.

The Society is an active member of the Brussels-based International Dairy Federation (IDF) and a member of the Management Board of the United Kingdom IDF.

New publication from the Society of Dairy Technology books series

Cleaning-in-Place
This is the third edition of the Society of Dairy Technology's highly successful volume on Cleaning-in-Place (CIP). Already a well-established practice in dairy technology, CIP has become increasingly relevant in the processed food industry during the last 10-15 years, and the beverage industry has seen increased demands from customers regarding CIP verification and validation to provide improvements in plant hygiene and related efficiency. This book addresses the principles of cleaning operations, water supply issues and the science of detergents and disinfectants; aspects of equipment design relevant to ease of cleaning; the assessment of cleaning efficiency and the management of cleaning operations. A chapter on membrane cleaning is included for the first time, as well as appendices containing useful data on fluid flow dynamics and laboratory test methods.
