Dairy Education and Training
The European Dairy Technology Diploma Holders Association (AEDIL) was formed to provide a forum for aiding better mobility of trained dairy workers within Europe and to promote training. When AEDIL accepted the Society's invitation to hold its summer 2004 meetings in the UK, it was appropriate to use the educational & training expertise of the AEDIL members in their respective countries by organising a joint SDT/AEDIL international-level Symposium on "Dairy Education and Training". The rationale for this initiative is to present a UK platform for AEDIL to discuss its pan-European initiatives in this important area. Since all the AEDILs educational/training courses are conducted in English, this should facilitate a major UK/Irish involvement in the future.
The four AEDIL speakers will cover the introductory course conducted at the Dalum College of Food & Technology, Denmark and the follow-on, specialist courses on "Speciality Cheese" from Switzerland and "Novel Technologies" to be held in Weihenstephan, Germany.
These speakers will be joined by those from the United Kingdom and Ireland, discussing the corresponding dairy education and training situation and Industry needs in their countries.
The Symposium is taking place in association with the Dairy Industry Association Limited's (DIAL's) annual Dairy Industry Show (DIS) at Blackpool, thus providing both a view of the UK dairy industry and a unique comparison of current dairy education and training regimes within Europe.
