Comments from members on what Society membership means to them:

  • “I joined our society so I could meet like-minded professionals who share the same passion and interest in dairy technology as I. There is a wealth of knowledge and experience that members are eager to share and it’s fantastic to be in a thriving and growing organisation.” Anon
  • “I have found being a member of our society personally rewarding as it is has provided me with professional recognition of my achievements within the dairy industry. Combined with this, membership provides an invaluable opportunity for continuous professional development.” Anon
  • " I have been a Member of the SDT since early 1974 I seem to recall.  Most new “recruits” in those days were urged to join – in my case the late Jerry Lyons was the “prime urger”.  This was just after I joined Golden Vale and I was just starting out on my career.  Though I knew the SDT existed even while in UCC, at the time I joined I had little knowledge and appreciation of how I would benefit from it.   I was involved at local (Southern Ireland) committee level from about 1992, and somehow I never managed to not be involved here since!  Over the years I got to know many of the SDT “luminaries” – I won’t name any, lest I omit some that certainly shouldn’t be overlooked or forgotten by me.  Then in 2002, at an SDT event in Northern Ireland, I think it was in Loughry College, the late David Armstrong, who was then SDT President, said that he wished to nominate me as Junior Vice-President at the following AGM – and well saying “no” to David would have been a waste of time – that is how I ended up as President 2006 – 2008 and being on the SDT Board until 2011 (I think). Having been awarded Honorary Membership in 2012,together,  I thought I had received all the recognition available from the SDT, but now being awarded the SDT President’s Award is a most unexpected additional recognition.  I am so very honoured and grateful to be considered worthy for this."  Michael Hickey, recipient of The President's Award 2020.
